I work in a variety of media including clay, encaustic, oil, and acrylic. Working in both three dimensional and two dimensional, large and small, my awareness of the presence and physicality of the work is constantly renewed and energized. Through play and experimentation, I work intuitively, often without a final product in mind in the initial stages, to allow the present moment to guide my marks, texture, imagery, and colors. I keep my mind open for new opportunities to arise, a silent dialogue balancing between material, lived experience, the moment, and the viewer.
My creative process is used as a tool to explore and discover my conscious and subconscious understanding of myself in the context of the universe around me, including the societal structures that affect me. This requires examining the coherence of my personal experience in relation to my identity, community, and humanity as an interconnected part of nature and the universe.
I attempt to convey this interconnectedness by creating tension between the familiar and the unknown, making connections with my viewers where he or she can find comfort in the familiar. Ambiguity exists where meaning is not fully resolved and requires the viewer to absorb and interpret the piece in the context of his or her own lived experience.
My studio is located on the 4th floor of the Langer Place, a historic mill building located alongside the Merrimack River in the Amoskeag Mill complex in Manchester NH located at 55 Commercial Street, Manchester NH 03101.
